Despite the scientific achievements and drug developments of the past 60 years, atherosclerosis is still one of the leading cause of mortality worldwide statistically.

The main reason for this leading role is that we still have a lot to discover about the etiology and the pathogenesis of the disease, the progression of the disease, and the factors which influence the progression of the disease. We do not know all the risk factors; the factors that influence progression and we are also not certain if the specificities of the arterial position have a role in the personal progression.

The aim of the consortium, created by Semmelweis University, the National Agricultural Research and Innovation Center - Institute for Agricultural Biotechnology (NAIK-MBK) and ImmunoGenes Kft., Is to facilitate innovative research with the involvement of molecular biology, immunology and gene technology to analyse patient samples and to utilize research results to understand the phenomena of the process of atherosclerosis and how to influence it.
